China (PRC) may try to take Taiwan under military control, but only if the United States fails to intervene in this conflict. Kirill Kotkov, an orientalist and head of the Center for the Study of the Far East in St. Petersburg, expressed this opinion on Monday, April 28.

"China will take Taiwan militarily, but only when Taiwan's allies, that is, the United States and its satellites, for one reason or another, will not be able to help Taiwan," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to Kotkov, China needs to figure out the moment when none of the big powers will be able to intervene in this conflict.

He admitted that the United States could surrender Taiwan in exchange for major concessions from China, but this is unlikely to be possible. According to the orientalist, China is currently not ready for a military confrontation with the United States.

"China will avoid an open military conflict with the United States in every possible way, unless, of course, they somehow provoke it," the expert concluded.

During the maneuvers, Beijing is exploring the possibility of obtaining comprehensive control and blocking key areas of the island.

Earlier, China's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Chen Xu, said that the US State Department had increased support for Taiwan's political ambitions, RT reports. The reason for the statement was the removal of a phrase from the agency's website stating that the United States does not support Taiwan's independence.

On April 24, the Taipei Times newspaper reported that the United States may provide JUMP 20 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Taiwanese Navy to strengthen its medium and long-range reconnaissance capabilities, as well as support the development of a new generation reconnaissance UAV.

Prior to that, on April 5, the Taiwanese authorities reported the approach of 12 aircraft and six ships of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) to the island. At the same time, it was clarified that nine aircraft crossed the median line and entered the southwestern and eastern air defense zones of Taiwan.

Earlier, on April 3, it was reported that representatives of the armed forces of the United States and China held talks several times in Shanghai and discussed the issue of reducing unsafe actions by Chinese warships and aircraft.
