The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labor need to take into account the problem of low salaries of young teachers when developing a new system of remuneration for teachers. This was announced on April 28 by the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

"The salary of a young teacher <... > — it is very low. <...> Therefore, in my opinion, the Ministries of Education and Labor should develop a new wage system <...> we need to pay attention to this. The salary of a young teacher is not just uncompetitive, it is impossible to support a family on it. We're also talking about demographics. It's all interconnected," she stressed during a meeting of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation.

According to her, the salary of a pizza deliveryman in Moscow can reach 130 thousand rubles, and a young teacher — 25 thousand rubles. Matvienko added that due to this situation, more than 60% of graduates of pedagogical universities do not work by profession.

On March 5, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, announced that a new teacher remuneration system would be approved in Russia in 2026, and in 2027 it would be introduced into all educational organizations. He added that by the end of 2023, the growth in teachers' salaries amounted to 12% by 2022.
