Russia is proud of the feat of all those who defended their homeland during the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was stated on April 28 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during a speech at the federal educational marathon "Knowledge. The first ones."

"Very soon we will celebrate an important date — the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory <...> We are, of course, proud of the feat of all those who selflessly defended the independence of our Motherland. They are real heroes, whose courage and dedication inspire us today," he stressed.

The Prime Minister noted that WWII had become a major challenge for the country. Mishustin recalled that thanks to the courage and steadfastness of Soviet soldiers and workers, the country has preserved its independence and freedom.

"Thousands of people worked hard in factories, fields, and hospitals to support the fighters and provide them with everything they needed. And, of course, the work did not stop in scientific laboratories and design bureaus," he added.

On April 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in many countries they purposefully encourage Nazism and Russophobia, and try to distort the role of the USSR in the Victory in World War II. He noted that in such circumstances, solidarity and loyalty to the truth become especially important, as attempts are being made to review the outcome of the war.
