- Russian Ambassador lays flowers at the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Germany

A flower-laying ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of its liberation by the Red Army took place in the former Nazi Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The footage of the April 28 event is published by Izvestia.
The memorial event was held by the Russian Embassy in Germany, and Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechaev himself took part in the ceremony. Dozens of people came to honor the memory of concentration camp prisoners and Red Army liberators.
Earlier, on April 22, the Federal Security Service (FSB) released new declassified archival documents telling about the numerous experiments that the Nazis conducted on prisoners of Sachsenhausen. It occupied a special position among the "death camps" of Nazi Germany — it contained the most serious political opponents of fascism and prominent statesmen from many European countries. In April 1945, Sachsenhausen was liberated by the advanced units of the 1st Belorussian Front.
