FAS warned retail chains about unjustified rise in meat prices

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has sent information to major retail chains and industry associations that sellers should not unreasonably raise prices for meat products ahead of the May holidays, the agency's press service reported on April 21.
"The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia has drawn the attention of retail trade organizations to the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases for beef, pork, lamb, chicken meat and other food products that are in high consumer demand during the holidays," the press service said.
The Antimonopoly Service stressed the importance of strict compliance with antimonopoly legislation. In case of detection of signs of unfair practice, the agency will take appropriate measures.
In addition, the FAS strongly recommends that retail chains provide end-users with information about lower selling prices from suppliers for these products.
The agency regularly analyzes food prices and highly appreciates the socially responsible behavior of retail chains that voluntarily limit their margins, including on meat products. According to the service, this practice helps to improve the accessibility of popular products to the public.
Earlier, on January 13, the FAS fined Alfa-Bank for improper advertising campaign with Yandex.Food. It was reported that the joint advertisement was distributed on the air of federal TV channels. The video contained information that was attractive to consumers about accruing 50% cashback when paying for an order in the Yandex service with any bank card.
