A man was detained in Karelia on suspicion of embezzlement of payments for war veterans

In Karelia, a suspect was detained in the theft of 480 thousand rubles intended for payments to veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), he turned out to be a 34-year-old postal worker. This was announced on April 28 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

According to her, the police received a message from an 86-year-old resident of Petrozavodsk. She said that she had not received a payment in the amount of 80 thousand rubles for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"As a result of operational search measures, the police identified and detained the suspect. It turned out to be a 34-year—old post office employee," Wolf wrote on her Telegram channel.

She added that the attacker forged the recipient's signature on the receipt and appropriated the funds entrusted to him. During the interview, the man explained that he had spent the stolen money on gambling and sports betting. Currently, the suspect has been given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave. A criminal case has been opened under the article and theft of someone else's property entrusted to the perpetrator.

Earlier, on April 23, a 34-year-old man suspected of stealing and selling icons was detained in the Moscow region. It is specified that the attacker stole nine shrines from four houses. The man explained that he had sold some of the stolen goods through an online classifieds service.
