Several prestigious American institutions of higher education have joined forces against the administration of US President Donald Trump to counter its financial policies against universities. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on April 27, citing sources.

"According to people familiar with the initiative, the heads of some of the country's most prestigious universities have assembled a private team to counter the attacks of the Trump administration," the publication says.

It is specified that at the moment the unofficial association includes about 10 educational institutions, some of which are members of the Ivy League. According to the newspaper, most of the universities in the group are located in states that support the Democratic Party.

The main objectives of the association are to defend academic independence, as well as to maintain control over the procedure for admitting students and hiring new employees.

On April 24, Trump called Harvard University a "threat to democracy" and accused its leadership of "liberal disorder." The president's comment came after the Harvard leadership once again ignored the Trump administration's demands on the educational institution.

The Wall Street Journal newspaper wrote on April 20 that the Trump administration intends to deprive Harvard University of another $ 1 billion due to its refusal to change the internal policy of the educational institution. The next day, on April 21, The New York Times reported that Harvard had filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration after its threats to cut funding.
