North Korea confirms sending of army special forces to Russia
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has officially confirmed the dispatch of army special forces to the territory of the Russian Federation in accordance with the strategic partnership agreement. This was reported on April 28 by the Central Telegraphic Agency of the DPRK (KCNA).
"[Chairman of the DPRK] Kim Jong-un, based on such an analysis and judgment that the current situation corresponds to the implementation of Article 4 of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between the DPRK and the Russian Federation, decided to send our army special forces to participate in hostilities and informed the Russian side about this," the publication says.
In addition, the agency stressed that the Korean side will continue to support the "sacred cause of the army and the people of Russia." According to KCNA, according to Kim Jong-un's promise, a monument of military glory will be erected in Pyongyang in the near future to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.
On April 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated and thanked the personnel of the military units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation who took part in the defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, separately thanked the DPRK military, who greatly helped in defeating the Ukrainian group.
On June 19, 2024, Pyongyang hosted the signing of a new comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and the DPRK. This document replaced earlier fundamental documents between Moscow and Pyongyang: the Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Assistance of 1961, the Treaty of Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation of 2000, and the Moscow and Pyongyang Declarations adopted in 2000 and 2001.
