- The media learned about the repayment by the Pope of the mortgage of the pasta factory in prison

Before his death, Pope Francis spent almost all the money from his personal account to pay off the mortgage of a Roman pasta factory located in a prison for juvenile prisoners. This was reported on April 26 by The Economist magazine with links to official materials from the Vatican.
"Shortly before his death, he (the Pope. — Ed.) spent almost all of his remaining money, about 200 thousand euros ($225 thousand), to pay off the mortgage on a pasta factory that operates at a juvenile prison in Rome," the report says.
The publication noted that the pontiff has always been very sensitive to prisoners, urging the public to show as much mercy as possible towards those "who have made a mistake."
In the spiritual testament mentioned by the magazine, the pope listed the wishes for his funeral procession, which, according to the will of the priest, should be characterized by asceticism.
"Out of the field of view of the press, he was supposed to be buried in a marble grave from Liguria, a region in northwestern Italy, from where his migrant ancestors left for Argentina. And engrave a single word on the grave: Francis," the publication notes, referring to a coded message to the society.
In the same place, in the order for the funeral of the pope, there is a request from Francis to be placed in a wooden coffin. This, in the opinion of the "last pope," as the Italians call him, would mark the place of the church next to those who are "on the sidelines of society," the publication added.
Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88 on Easter Monday, April 21, was buried in accordance with the regulations of the "Funeral Order of the Roman Pontiff", in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore on April 26. Over 200,000 people attended the farewell ceremony, and 50 heads of state were invited.
