Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately supported the initiative of the American leader Donald Trump on a 30-day ceasefire, provided that past mistakes are not repeated. This was stated on April 27 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with CBC News, published on the Foreign Ministry's website.

"Putin immediately supported the proposal <...> to establish a 30-day cease—fire, provided that we do not repeat the mistakes of the last 10 years, when agreements were signed, and Ukraine violated them," he said, adding that it was about the February 2014 agreement, the Minsk agreements and the Istanbul agreements in April 2022.

During the fighting, Russia strikes only at military targets or civilian facilities used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the diplomat added.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin said that we are aiming for a ceasefire, but we want guarantees that it will not be used again to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine and that the supply of weapons must be stopped," Lavrov said.

He also clarified that Moscow has repeatedly expressed its readiness to seek a balance of interests in relation to Ukraine and the United States, and refuted the words that Russia is currently not ready to make any concessions.

Lavrov said in an interview with CBS News on April 25 that Russia was putting forward and considering serious proposals for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, and negotiations on the issue were continuing. Then he clarified that the Russian representatives were polite and therefore did not publicly disclose the details of the negotiations, unlike the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky.
