- The Romanian presidential candidate proposed to stop the import of agricultural products from Ukraine

Romanian presidential candidate Victor Ponta proposed on April 27 to stop importing agricultural and food products from Ukraine.
"The second measure, the political decision to be taken by the President of the European Council (EU) <...>, is to stop importing agri—food products from Ukraine," Agerpres agency quoted Ponta as saying.
According to the presidential candidate, the support provided to Ukraine from Romania should not lead to bankruptcy of local producers.
Ponta said that in the first three months of 2025, Romania recorded the largest budget deficit in the country's history — about €9 billion. At the same time, pensions, salaries and benefits have been frozen, and taxes and duties have been increased.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the country's authorities do not intend to finance Ukraine's military needs. Fico added that, in the current circumstances, it is absolutely necessary to resume transit of Russian gas through Ukraine as soon as possible.
