The number of victims of the explosion in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas has increased to 40

The death toll from the explosion at the Shahid Rajai port in Bandar Abbas, Iran, has risen to 40. This was announced on April 27 by the governor of the province, Mohammad Ashuri.

"At the moment, 40 people have died due to injuries sustained as a result of the explosion," Tasnim news agency quoted Ashuri as saying on its Telegram channel.

The explosion at the Shahid Rajai seaport occurred on Saturday, April 26. The blast wave was so strong that it severely damaged most of the buildings in the port, as well as cars. 1,139 people were injured. The New York Times newspaper later named the cause of the explosion in the Iranian port as a substance for rocket fuel. There is no exact information about the causes of the explosion in Shahid Rajai yet. The Governor of Hormozgan, Mohammad Ashuri, declared three days of general mourning in connection with the tragedy.

On April 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian and the country's supreme leader Ali Khamenei expressing condolences over the explosion. After that, the Russian Embassy in Tehran reported that Moscow would send several aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to help extinguish the fire.
