Johann Vadefuhl, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group on defense and an ardent supporter of Ukraine, may become the new German foreign minister. This was reported by Tagesspiegel on April 27.

It is reported that Vadefulya is 62 years old and he has repeatedly insisted on allowing Kiev to use German weapons on Russian territory, and also stated that Berlin needs to reconsider its previous policy towards the Russian Federation.

It is indicated that over the past two weeks, Vadefulh has already held informal meetings with the foreign ministers of France, Great Britain, Italy and Poland. According to sources in the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, these contacts took place with the consent of the head of the CDU, possible German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Early elections to the Bundestag were held in Germany on February 23. The CDU/CSU opposition bloc won, gaining 28.6%. The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, with 20.8%, became the second political force in the country. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz showed the worst result in its history, receiving just over 16.4%.

Earlier, on April 8, the media reported that the SPD and the CDU/CSU had signed an agreement on the formation of the ruling coalition in Germany after the early elections to the Bundestag. The negotiators were able to reach an agreement in principle on the points of the future coalition agreement that caused disagreement.
