The French government will propose to merge or abolish a third of state institutions by the end of the year in order to save money. This was announced on April 27 by the country's Minister of Public Accounts, Amélie de Monchalin.

"By the end of the year, a third of government institutions that are not universities will be merged or liquidated," she said in an interview with French broadcaster CNews Europe 1.

The minister stressed that the state is going to restore order, as the French people are asking for it.

De Montchalin said that 180,000 people currently work in government institutions. According to her, this is "more than the number of gendarmes in the country."

"You have people who are retiring, you have people you can unite, we have enough resources not to cause social upheaval," she said, answering a question about ways to implement job cuts in the public sector.

On April 22, Bloomberg reported that French President Emmanuel Macron is exploring the possibility of dissolving parliament and holding snap elections this fall. According to the agency, the French leader has been discussing the decision with his close associates for several weeks, but so far the talks are only advisory.

In turn, the head of the National Unification party, Jordan Bardella, said on January 27 that the dissolution of the French parliament was inevitable. The politician noted that only the return of the government to the people will make it possible to form a clear and stable majority for the country.
