Companies from the People's Republic of China (PRC) have begun to move production to American sites in order to avoid high customs duties on the import of their products into the United States. This was reported on April 27 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper.

According to Zhu Ning, the head of a consulting firm that helps Chinese enterprises partially move production to the United States, over the past four months his company has received at least 100 requests for business relocation from China to the United States, which is approximately the same as for the entire year 2024.

As Chinese businessman Ryan Zhou noted, moving production to America is a difficult process, but if he cannot find a way around the wave of US tariff increases, his business will not be able to fight for survival. Edited

In turn, Leo Lee, the head of the electronic components manufacturing company, admitted that the company's costs would increase significantly if it were transferred to American sites. However, it will still be more profitable than paying 145% customs duties, adds "Газета.Ru ".

On April 23, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that the American side does not intend to unilaterally reduce tariffs on China. However, Washington is optimistic about a possible agreement with Beijing. According to Leavitt, the United States requires China, first of all, to reduce its own tariffs on products from the country, as well as to lift non-monetary trade restrictions.

Earlier, on April 9, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would immediately raise trade duties on China to 125%. On the same day, the Chinese authorities, in turn, decided to raise duties on imported goods from the United States to 84% as a mirror measure.
