On April 27, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian expressed his condolences over the explosion at the Iranian port of Shahid Rajai and assured that all problems related to the incident would be resolved.
"I express my condolences to the families of those who died as a result of the tragic incident at the port of Shahid Rajai and wish the victims good health," Tasnim news agency's Telegram channel quoted him as saying.
According to the President, the Iranian Ministry of Health and expert groups have received the necessary instructions from the government regarding the incident. The authorities are now making every effort to monitor and resolve emerging issues, Peseshkian stressed.
Earlier in the day, Russian Leader Vladimir Putin also expressed his condolences over the tragedy. He sent a telegram to Peseshkian and the supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, in which he asked to convey words of sympathy to the relatives of the victims and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The explosion at the Shahid Rajai seaport occurred on Saturday, April 26. The blast wave was so strong that it severely damaged most of the buildings in the port, as well as cars. 25 people became victims of the incident, 1139 more were injured. The New York Times newspaper later named the cause of the explosion in the Iranian port as a substance for rocket fuel.
On the morning of April 27, the Governor of Hormozgan, Mohammad Ashuri, declared three days of general mourning in connection with the tragedy.
