Deputy Kharchenko proposed making April 26 the date of liberation of the Kursk region from the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ekaterina Kharchenko, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, proposed making April 26 the date of liberation of the Kursk region from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). She spoke about this initiative in a conversation with Izvestia.

Kharchenko stressed that April 26, 2025 is an important date for the whole of Russia.

"I would like to announce an initiative to propose making April 26 a memorable date in honor of the liberation of the Nightingale Region from enemies," she said.

The MP also noted that this event in the modern history of the country should be captured in textbooks for schoolchildren and students.

"To make sure that all the younger generations of Russians know about the feat of our defenders of the special military operation in the liberation of Kursk land," Kharchenko said.

On April 26, the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, reported on the liberation of the last Kursk village of Gornal from the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the total losses of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk area amounted to more than 76 thousand people. The Head of State congratulated and thanked the personnel of the military units of the Russian Armed Forces who took part in the defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region.

On the same day, units of the 22nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 44th Army Corps of the North group of forces planted the Russian flag in Gornala. The Russian Defense Ministry also released footage from the settlement, showing the operational work of units to liberate the territory from Ukrainian militants.
