The number of victims of the explosion in the Iranian port of Shahid Rajai has now increased to 1,139 people, Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on April 27.

"The situation in the Shahid Rajai port is under control. <...> There are 1,139 people in medical institutions. Some of them were transported to Shiraz and Lorestan by air," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier in the morning, the Governor of Hormozgan, Mohammad Ashuri, declared three days of general mourning in connection with the tragedy. He noted that 750 people injured in the explosion are in hospitals, and 200 of them were discharged in the morning. The death toll from the explosion has increased to 25 people.

The explosion at the Shahid Rajai seaport occurred on Saturday, April 26. The blast wave was so strong that it severely damaged most of the buildings in the port, as well as cars. The Russian Embassy in Iran expressed its condolences in connection with the explosion. The New York Times newspaper later named the cause of the explosion in the Iranian port as a substance for rocket fuel.
