The park in the city of Nagaizumi in the Japanese prefecture of Shizuoka was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest in the world. This was reported on April 27 by the Kyodo news agency.

The facility is located next to the city hall, its area is only 0.24 hectares. The park is a rectangular platform made of bricks on which small plants grow. There are also two stones, one of which reads: "The smallest park in the world."

As Kyodo points out, the record holder was erected in 1988 on land that remained unused after road work. The official who proposed the project was inspired by the previous record holder, Mill Ends Park in Portland, USA.

It is reported that the authorities and residents of Nagaizumi began fighting for entry into the Guinness Book of Records in 2023. To confirm the record, they needed to measure the area of the park, provide evidence that the facility has existed for more than five years, and officially reclassify it from a road section to a park proper. After all, the place was entered into the Guinness Book of Records in December 2024.

It is noted that the record-breaking park attracts many tourists to the city, including from outside Shizuoka Prefecture.

Earlier, in March, Iranian athlete Giti Mousavi got into the Guinness Book of Records for managing to move an 18-ton plane. She had been preparing for this for three years, training for 2-3 hours every day.
