- France announced recognition of Russia as the owner of the church and cemetery in Nice
The Court of Appeal of the French city of Aix-en-Provence has recognized Russia as the owner of the Church of Saints Nicholas and Alexandra and the Cocad Orthodox cemetery in Nice. This was reported by the Nice-Matin newspaper on April 26.
It is clarified that this court decision resolved a property dispute with the Russian Orthodox Association of Nice (ACOR).
"As of this Thursday, this secular association, formed in 1923, is under threat of eviction. Based on the decision of the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence, she will have to return the keys to the Longchamp church, as well as to the Kokad Russian cemetery," the publication says.
In "Газете.ги " it was noted that back in 2021, the court decided to recognize the Russian Federation as the owner of the sites near St. Nicholas Cathedral. However, ACOR retained ownership of the cemetery and the church.
On November 17, 2021, the Russian Embassy in Paris announced that a court in France had recognized the Russian Federation as the owner of the Archangel Michael Church in Cannes. The decision was made by the Grasse Court on November 9 of the same year.
