- The first branch of the Polytechnic Museum opened in Veliky Novgorod.

On April 26, the Polytechnic Museum opened its first branch in Veliky Novgorod.
This has become a large cultural and educational project under the supervision of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (NRC).
Veliky Novgorod is the first city in the country to have a branch. The building in which it is located was built in the 19th century and used to belong to the mayor of Novgorod, Grigory Smetanin.
"If it hadn't been for the contact between the authorities of Veliky Novgorod and the federal Ministry of Culture, nothing would have happened. That's the main thing. And this is a very important example. Today we are opening the first branch in the history of the Polytechnic Museum. You see, this is an important matter," said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
It is specified that there will be a library on the basis of the museum, which will open access to the funds of famous Russian book depositories. A collection from the museum's main collection will appear in a space of almost 1 thousand square meters. Its repository contains more than 220 thousand items and unique documents.
"We have institutes in every region, we have new scientists, we have our own new inventors who are now making a big contribution. Therefore, each of our centers, a branch of the Polytechnic Museum, must have a regional component," said Elena Kharlamova, Director of the Department of Museums and Digital Art at the Ministry of Culture.
The branch of the Polytechnic Museum in Veliky Novgorod will open to visitors on May 1, and the acquaintance with the new museum space will begin with the historical exhibition "Autobiography", which will tell about the formation and development of the Polytechnic Museum, noted the correspondent of "Izvestia" Kristina Morozova.
"We have a Permanent exhibition in our big plans. It is dedicated to the dissemination of information from the origin of writing to modern technologies," said Daniil Borisevich, head of the branch of the Polytechnic Museum in Veliky Novgorod.
Earlier in the day, Kovalchuk noted the unique role of the Moscow Polytechnic Museum in the history of Russian science and technology. According to him, it is the largest polytechnic museum in the world. It has more than 200 thousand real full-scale exhibits. He recalled that the museum appeared after the successful industrial exhibition of 1872, which was held in the Alexander Garden next to the Kremlin. The exhibition attracted about 750,000 people and became the basis for the creation of two institutions at once — the Historical Museum and the Polytechnic Museum, whose buildings were built in the center of Moscow.
