Igor Pechura, a deputy from the Leningrad Region, lost his legs after a shell detonated during the Great Patriotic War (WWII), a source told Izvestia on April 26.
In addition to his main work, Pechura led a search team that excavates artifacts from the time of the Second World War. The accident occurred on the evening of April 25, when the deputy was in the garage at his house in Petrovskaya Dacha.
When the explosion occurred, the Pechura family members immediately went outside to a loud sound and saw that the garage was missing part of the wall. According to the source, the 45-year-old deputy's legs were torn off to the knee as a result of the emergency. He also had to have his hand and part of his fingers amputated, and there were numerous burns on his body.
The victim's wife, Ekaterina, confirmed to Izvestia that her husband was in critical condition in intensive care after the explosion. According to her, doctors are not giving good forecasts yet.
On April 25, in Sevastopol, a student brought an airsoft grenade to school, and four children were injured when it detonated. The regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances of the incident and conducting an inspection. It is specified that the grenade exploded during a group lesson in the assembly hall.
