Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un took part in the launching ceremony of the new multipurpose destroyer Choe Hyun to fight "imperialist pirates." This was reported on April 26 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"In the presence of the Secretary General of the WPK, Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK, esteemed Comrade Kim Jong—un, on the day of the founding of the first armed forces of the Korean Revolution, on April 25, a solemn ceremony of launching a new destroyer was held at the Nampho Shipyard," the agency's material says.

According to the secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Cho Chun Ryong, the destroyer was built in "more than 400 days." He specified that the ship will strengthen the country's navy thanks to the new and powerful weapons it is equipped with.

In addition, the DPRK leader said that the launch of a new generation destroyer is necessary for the state, as it will become the starting point for the construction and development of an "advanced maritime power."

KCNA reported on February 28 that Kim Jong-un, during tests of strategic cruise missiles, stated the need to improve the combat readiness of the country's nuclear forces. According to the head of state, it is necessary to be ready to use nuclear weapons for defense purposes. He also stressed the need to more consistently improve the combat readiness of the nuclear armed forces.
