"Although Canada and the EU have much in common, EU membership is open only to European states," the Canadian diplomatic mission told Izvestia.

Canada and the EU share many values and aspirations and are constantly working to expand cooperation. The parties have concluded a strategic partnership agreement and a comprehensive economic and trade agreement, Canadian diplomats emphasized to Izvestia.

Recall that the discussion about Ottawa joining the EU began after a recent publication in Politico that such a scenario is unlikely but possible.
