Russia and Tajikistan signed a protocol on the operation of Sangtudinskaya HPP-1

Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev and his colleague from the Republic of Tajikistan, Daler Juma, signed a protocol on the operation of the Sangtuda Hydroelectric Power Station-1 (HPP). This was announced on April 25 by the press service of the Russian government.
"Russia and Tajikistan have signed a protocol on cooperation on the operation of the Sangtudinskaya HPP-1," the press service said in a Telegram channel.
This protocol is temporarily applied after 10 days from the date of its signing. It will officially enter into force upon receipt of the last written notification through diplomatic channels that all parties to the treaty have completed their domestic procedures.
It is specified that this hydroelectric power plant is a joint investment project of the two countries, developed as part of their strategic cooperation in the field of rational use of water and energy resources.
Sangtuda HPP-1 consists of four hydroelectric units, each of which has a capacity of 167.5 MW and is therefore the second most powerful in Tajikistan, second only to the Nurek HPP, which has a capacity of 3,000 MW. In addition, it provides about 12% of electricity generation in the republic.
On April 17, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that Russia was interested in building new power plants in Tajikistan, which would involve companies from the Russian Federation. He also added that Moscow is also interested in repairing, re-equipping and modernizing the existing hydroelectric power plant.
On March 17, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom State Corporation, told Izvestia about joint projects between Russia and Tajikistan, including in the field of ecology. According to him, the joint work includes the elimination of the legacy of uranium projects, the reclamation of mines and processing facilities.
