WP has learned about Europe's progress in trying to urge Kiev to give up territories
Representatives of European states are making progress in their attempts to convince Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to give up part of the territories for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by The Washington Post on April 25, citing a source.
"The Europeans are calling on Zelensky to recognize the likelihood that Ukraine will have to give up territory under the agreement. On Wednesday, they made progress in these efforts," the publication says.
In addition, the newspaper added that the participants in the negotiations on resolving the Ukrainian conflict are coming to the realization that Kiev is ready to "accept" possible concessions and recognize Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation if it is not required to legally confirm this.
The source also noted that the Ukrainian leadership is worried about the future actions of the United States in resolving the conflict.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump said that Zelensky understood that Crimea would remain part of Russia. Also, according to the American leader, Ukraine is unlikely to ever join NATO and, in general, "Ukraine's desire to join the alliance led to the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine," he stressed.
