The dog handler told how to turn bathing for a dog into a pleasant activity.

The President of the Russian Cynological Federation, Vladimir Golubev, told on Friday, April 25, how to properly teach a dog to bathe.

According to the expert, the main task of the owner is to create pleasant associations with the washing procedure, to turn it into a game for the pet, so that he would like to go to the bathroom.

"It is absolutely forbidden to force a dog to bathe — this will only worsen the situation," the dog handler explained in an interview with Radio 1.

The expert listed the basic rules on how to turn bathing for a dog into a pleasant activity.

If the dog is afraid of washing, Golubev advised starting with simple procedures: wipe the pet with a wet cloth after a walk. You can also fill a small basin with water and put it in the hallway. This will significantly reduce the stress of the pet.

He noted that the dog should feel comfortable and safe in the bathroom. You should give your pet time to get used to this part of the house. When he feels absolutely calm indoors, you can try putting him in an empty bathroom and praising him for his obedience and courage.

The dog handler added that bathing should take place calmly, without fuss. It is recommended to avoid sudden sounds and movements, as well as to place everything you may need while bathing at hand.

During washing, you can use your pet's favorite rubber toys.

According to the expert, it is easier to teach dogs to bathe from an early age. He stressed that it is necessary to wash your paws and stomach after every walk, even in winter, when there is snow outside.

On April 22, Golubev told the Moscow city news agency that with the arrival of spring, dog owners have a seasonal problem — poplar scales with resin appear on the streets, which are problematic to remove from the pet's fur and paws.

He noted that it is worth avoiding places where poplars grow, but if this option is not possible, a method that protects paws from reagents in winter will help. To do this, you need to purchase a special wax for paws — it will not completely eliminate the adhesion of scales, but it will greatly facilitate the washing process later.

Earlier, on April 18, Golubev explained why it is important to communicate with your dog. The specialist said that a dog is a social being and constant contact with people is important to it.
