On April 25, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev called the possible restoration of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines a matter of the political will of the German and US authorities.

"As for the possibilities to revive them (pipelines — Ed.), we have those in this regard, because the qualifications of our specialists are very high class. And everything else is a matter of political will and real concrete agreements," Nechaev told RIA Novosti.

Also, according to the ambassador, there are many businessmen among the new US administration who know a lot about the economy and can deal with a deal to restore Nord Streams.

Earlier, on March 3, the official representative of the European Commission (EC), Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project was not a point of interest for the European Union (EU) states. According to her, it does not allow to diversify the energy sources of the association.

Leaks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream–2 gas pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were registered on the pipelines. Traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the CIA was responsible for the bombings.
