An IT expert warned about a fraudulent scheme with two calls

The fraudulent "two calls" scheme is spreading online. Ekaterina Rudaya, an information security expert at SKB Kontur, warned about this on Friday, April 25.
According to the expert, at first the victim is put into a state of anxiety under the pretext of delivering a parcel or providing a service. The main purpose of scammers at this stage is to start a dialogue to obtain any sensitive information: a text message code, address, or card details. Rudaya stressed that even minimal information helps to form the context for a future attack.
The expert added that the second call suggests a "rescue." The attackers call after some time and impersonate an employee of a government agency or bank, or send an SMS about a "hack" and ask them to urgently call back to the specified number.
Now the first call looks like an attack, and the second one confirms this hunch.
"The scammers are increasing the pressure, saying that hackers called who gained access to the victim's data, but I'm ready to help fix it," said an information security expert in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
If the victim succumbs to panic, the attacker gets everything: access to "Public Services", card data, information about cash at home, reports RT.
To protect herself, Rudaya urged not to report SMS codes, even if the caller introduces himself as an employee of a bank or a government agency, to call back only to official numbers listed on organizations' websites, and if possible to ignore suspicious calls from unfamiliar numbers.
On April 24, Elizaveta Kulikova, a clinical psychologist at Pirogov University, warned that fraudsters can often manipulate emotions by pretending to be close relatives in trouble. Oh na talked about how not to fall for their tricks and protect the older generation from deception.
In order not to become a victim of fraudsters, the expert advised creating a code word that only close people will know. According to her, this will help protect themselves from intruders who, posing as relatives, claim that they urgently need money, for example, due to an accident or detention.
