The expert spoke about the schedule of work in the run-up to the holidays

The working day on April 30 should be shortened by an hour for all employees, including those who work remotely. Alexander Yuzhalin, head of the legal practice at SuperJob, told Izvestia about this on April 27.

The expert noted that April 30, 2025, as the day before the May 1 holiday, is subject to reduction. The only exceptions are continuously operating production facilities, where it is impossible to reduce the shift duration. In such cases, overtime is compensated by additional rest time or increased overtime pay.

Separately, Yuzhalin dwelled on the issue of work during the May holidays. In 2025, Russians will have holidays from 1 to 4 May and from 8 to 11 May. It is possible to involve employees with a five-day working week in these days only with their written consent, except in emergency situations.

"Shift workers can be called to work on public holidays according to the approved schedule," the lawyer said. — For other categories of employees, going to work on a holiday is a voluntary decision."

The specialist emphasized that work on public holidays is paid in double the amount. Double rates are applied for piecework workers, double rates are applied for employees with a tariff rate, and single or double daily rates are applied for salary workers, depending on processing.

Yuzhalin recalled that an employee's refusal to work on public holidays cannot result in disciplinary action. The employer is obliged to comply with labor laws, providing either a reduction in the pre-holiday period or appropriate compensation for overwork.

Earlier, on April 12, Avito Rabota specialists told Izvestia about the most profitable vacation schedules in May. Experts note that May is not the most profitable month for a long vacation: out of 31 calendar days, 13 are non—working days, and 18 are labor days. For comparison, there are five more working days in August and October. However, proper planning will significantly increase the rest period. So, by taking just three days off from May 5 to May 7, you can extend the holiday weekend to 11 days.
