At least 20 people have been killed in northwestern Nigeria as a result of a militant attack on a village. This was reported on April 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing local residents.

"On Thursday afternoon, hundreds of armed men opened fire on the miners, after which a shootout took place in the mining village of Gobirava-Chali in the Maru local government area of Zamfara State, as a result of which more than 20 people were killed," the newspaper said.

The agency emphasizes that kidnapping for ransom has become a frequent occurrence in Zamfara State. However, details about the possible motives of the attack are not yet known.

Earlier, on April 20, it was reported that at least 56 people were killed due to a militant attack in Benue State in Nigeria. It is assumed that the attack was carried out by an ethnic group of pastoralists.
