Modern orthodontic technologies make treatment comfortable and effective. Irina Fomina, an orthodontist and clinical director of REVIXAN, dispelled common myths about wearing braces in an interview with Izvestia on April 27.

Fomina stressed that Russian dentistry is among the best in the world today, so you should not trust frightening stories from the Internet. Mild discomfort in the first days after braces are installed is a normal reaction of the body to tooth movement, she noted. With the right approach from the doctor and the patient, the treatment takes place without serious inconvenience.

The specialist told us how to minimize unpleasant sensations. So, in the early days, you can take painkillers, although not all patients need them. It is better to choose soft food, but at the same time carefully monitor oral hygiene — such products stick to the teeth more strongly. Fomina recommended using orthodontic wax when rubbing braces.

"Patients with braces should spend more time brushing their teeth: a brush, a monopucker, brushes. Insufficient oral hygiene often leads to inflammation, which becomes the source of the very discomfort that is so often warned about on the Internet," the orthodontist warned.

Fomina spoke about modern methods of maintaining oral health during treatment, in particular about photodynamic therapy. This procedure, which can be performed both in the clinic and at home, helps to combat harmful microflora without antibiotics, reducing the risk of caries and inflammation.

According to her, 90% of success in orthodontics depends on the patient's discipline. Today, there are many convenient care products, the main thing is to choose the ones that you really like. This will help to preserve the result of treatment for many years to come.

Earlier, on April 25, Sabit Aliyev, a dental surgeon and chief physician of the Russian Dental Implantation Center dental clinic network, told Izvestia what contraindications there may be to the installation of braces. Temporary restrictions for the installation of braces can be called reasons that can be cured or that may disappear over time. So, this idea should be abandoned by people who suffer from tooth decay, periodontitis. You must first undergo full treatment.
