The trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan has grown by 9% this year, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Kohir Rasulzoda on April 25.

According to the head of the Russian government, Dushanbe is an important ally and strategic partner of Moscow in Central Asia. The bilateral relations of the states are based on historical friendship and mutual respect of fraternal peoples, he noted.

"Russia ranks first among Tajikistan's foreign trade partners. In January–February of this year, the mutual trade turnover increased by 9% and amounted to 23 billion rubles," Mishustin said.

He stated that the priority in this case is to strengthen interregional cooperation — over 80 subjects of the Russian Federation have business relations with Tajikistan.

The Russian Prime Minister also recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and called this anniversary a "common sacred holiday" for the two countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during talks with Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon on March 17, expressed hope that the Tajik people would support the course of good-neighborly relations with Moscow. Rahmon, in turn, stressed that Russian-Tajik relations are of the nature of a strategic partnership and are developing exclusively on an increasing trajectory.
