The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ordered Norwegian midfielder Mathias Norman and his current club Al‑Raed from Saudi Arabia will pay more than €3 million in compensation to the Russian football club (FC) Rostov for violating the terms of the contract. This was reported on the CAS website on April 25.

"The majority of the commission members believe that the footballer and Al-Raed should, together and separately, pay compensation to Rostov in the amount of 3,026,954.32 euros plus interest of 5% per annum from August 4, 2023 until the payment date," the CAS said in a statement.

It is clarified that the judging panel believes that the player did not have sufficient grounds to terminate his contract with Rostov.

According to the CAS press service, the board rejected the request to impose sports sanctions on Norman and his current club.

The Football Tribunal of the International Football Federation (FIFA) in November 2023 found former Rostov midfielder Norman guilty of terminating his contract with the Russian team. Then the court ordered the athlete to pay compensation to the club. It was clarified that Al-Raed, for which the Norwegian currently stands, is jointly and severally responsible.

Norman signed a contract with Rostov in 2019, played 56 matches and scored two goals. Later, he played on loan for the English Norwich and Dynamo Moscow. The Norwegian left Rostov in 2022.
