- Pushkov said the EU was unable to ban certain countries of the bloc from recognizing Crimea.

Brussels will not be able to influence the decision of European states to recognize Crimea as Russian after the United States does so. This was announced on April 25 by Alexey Pushkov, head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy.
"The European Commission has no official authority to prohibit EU member states from following Washington in this matter. This is fraught with an acute crisis and a split in the EU, as well as a powerful blow to the role of the European Commission," the Telegram channel says.
In addition, he noted that the European Commission is trying to act as the EU government, but it "is not and cannot be."
As Pushkov notes, all countries vote in the UN independently. They are able to coordinate their positions, while their views on crises or conflicts may differ dramatically.
Earlier, on April 23, The Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing a source, reported that the United States was outraged by Ukraine's refusal to recognize Crimea as Russian territory. It was clarified that representatives of the American delegation canceled their visit to London for the next stage of negotiations amid "anger in Washington" due to Kiev's unwillingness to agree to the official recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.
