The potential resignation of Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth is definitely not coming soon. Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, told Izvestia about this on April 25.

He noted that there is indeed a certain discord in the US military department — many officials are being fired, especially those who disagree with the policy of the new Minister of Defense.

"Trump gave the green light to carry out all these deep reforms in the military department. And I don't think anyone will fire Pete Hegseth right now. We remember how hard it was to coordinate it in the Senate. Obviously, if I change him, it will also be difficult to coordinate the next figure, this story will last for many months," Dudakov said.

In addition, the American political scientist stressed that the new White House administration, in the event of Hegseth's removal, would have to admit that the Democrats were right when they sabotaged Hegseth's confirmation to the post and claimed that he lacked experience.

"All of this combined is likely to force Trump not to fire him. But the fact that they will try to use this story in order to lower Trump's ratings and show that there is a rift in his administration, that it cannot manage the processes, is a fact," the expert said.

According to him, the impact of a series of resignations on Trump's image will depend on how far the reshuffle in the military department will go. If their consequences are negative, it can severely damage the reputation of the American leader, and if they are positive or neutral, the scandalous story will have a lesser impact on Trump's rating, he concluded.

On April 25, The Washington Post (WP) reported that Joe Kasper, Chief of Staff to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, has left his position and will now become a special civil servant focused on science, technology, and industry. On April 16, Politico reported that three defense department employees had been fired in connection with the ongoing investigation into leaks of classified information.

On March 24, The Atlantic published an article in which the editor reported that he had accidentally been added to a group chat on the Signal messenger, where there was a discussion of the upcoming strikes on Yemen on March 15. Information about the strikes appeared in the chat two hours before the attacks began. This forced the Trump team to look for excuses. It later turned out that Hegseth had duplicated information about the strikes in Yemen in a chat that included members of his family.

On March 26, the American human rights organization American Oversight filed a lawsuit in the Federal court of the District of Columbia against the head of the Pentagon. In response, Trump said that Hegseth had nothing to do with the incident, and also said that he was not going to fire anyone from his team after the scandalous leak of messages from the group chat.
