This was reported to Izvestia on April 25 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The 26 dead were passengers and drivers, the ministry said.

As a result of 79 accidents, 32 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 47 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 74 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 22 pedestrians under the age of 16, 17 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in unidentified locations.

In the city of Kurlov, Vladimir region, a 30-year-old motorcyclist without a driver's license, driving an unregistered motorcycle, ran over a 15-year-old cyclist who was unaccompanied by adults moving along the right edge of the roadway in the same direction as him. The schoolgirl died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior. Drivers need to avoid risky driving behavior, exceeding the speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. One should always reserve time for oneself in order to have time to adequately respond to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment, the traffic police emphasize.

It is planned to transfer medical examination, technical inspection, "vouchers" and insurance to electronic format.

"Driver's discipline is especially necessary if there are child passengers in your car, who should be transported in compliance with all applicable safety requirements. Transportation of children under the age of seven should only be carried out using child restraints. A child aged 7-12 can be transported using child restraints or seat belts, and in the front seat of a passenger car — only in child restraints," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The traffic police also reminded parents that the lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. The frivolous and irresponsible attitude of moms, dads, grandparents, older sisters and brothers to the leisure time of children are prerequisites for a possible tragedy. The life and health of underage summer residents depend entirely on adults, the department emphasizes.
