Drowning newborn in toilet sentenced to 1.5 years in prison

In Kurganinsk, a mother who drowned a newborn baby in the toilet was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. This was announced on April 25 by the joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory.

It is specified that on January 8, the girl gave birth to a baby at home and drowned the newborn girl in an outdoor toilet. The incident became known a few days later, when the defendant was taken to the hospital.

"A 19-year—old girl has been found guilty of committing a crime under Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder of a newborn child by a mother immediately after giving birth")," the judicial press service's Telegram channel says.

The defendant fully admitted her guilt. She will serve her sentence in a penal colony.

On February 25, a student in Kansk gave birth in a dormitory toilet and threw the baby in the trash. A criminal case was opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder of a newborn child by a mother").
