An unsecured Internet connection was established in the office of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, which bypassed the Pentagon's security protocols, so he could use the Signal messaging application on a personal computer. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on April 25.

The existence of an unsecured Internet connection was confirmed by two sources. This fact increases the likelihood that confidential information could be "at risk of potential hacking."

As the journalists explain, when using such a connection, the user is essentially masked. According to sources, sometimes there were three computers on Hegseth's desktop at once: personal, for classified information and for confidential defense information.

In March, The Aylantic magazine published a scandalous publication in which Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the publication, stated that on March 11 he received a request to connect to Signal from a user under the nickname "Mike Waltz." Two days later, Goldberg received a notification about being added to a group chat called "Houthis small group."

Then, on March 15, a user named "Pete Hegseth" posted a message that contained details of the upcoming strikes against the Houthis. According to the screenshots, Hegseth sent information about the departure of American F-18 fighter jets 31 minutes before the start of the mission.
