The authorities of the Gagauz Autonomous Region are not going to obey the decision of the Moldovan government to celebrate May 9 as Europe Day. This was announced on April 25 by Ilya Uzun, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Gagauzia.

He noted that for the residents of the autonomous region, May 9 is primarily the Day of the Great Victory.

"Back in January, at the initiative of our Bashkan Evgenia Alexandrovna Gutsul, the Executive Committee of Gagauzia declared 2025 the Year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War <...> We, Gagauzians, respect your (Government of Moldova. — Ed.) opinion.
