Trump signed a decree on the development of deep-sea mining

US President Donald Trump has signed a decree encouraging deep-sea mining. The White House announced this on April 24.
"Vast offshore areas contain critically important mineral and energy resources. These resources are key to strengthening our economy, ensuring an energy future, and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers of critically important minerals," the document says.
According to the decree, the United States needs to take immediate measures aimed at accelerating the development of the mineral resources of the seabed, calculating the volume of marine mineral resources, regaining U.S. leadership in technology, mining and processing, and ensuring reliable supply links in the defense, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
According to the Reuters news agency, there is a possibility that in some parts of the Pacific Ocean, as well as in other places, large reserves of rocks known as polymetallic nodules can be found, which are used to create building blocks for electric vehicles and electronics.
There are over 1 billion tons of resources containing manganese, nickel, copper and other important minerals in the country's waters. Their extraction can contribute to an increase in US GDP by $30 billion over 10 years, as well as the creation of 100,000 jobs, the administration official added.
Earlier, on April 21, Ukrainian political analyst Konstantin Bondarenko said that the deal with the United States on rare earths was unprofitable for Ukraine. In his opinion, the preliminary version of the agreement does not provide any security guarantees for Kiev, and also puts Ukraine in a de facto colonial position.
