Alikhan Mezhiyev, an accomplice of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack on Dubrovka, was released after 22 years of serving his sentence in a penal colony. This was reported on April 25 by law enforcement agencies.

"Alikhan Mezhiev was released on October 28, 2024, having fully served his sentence," RIA Novosti was told.

It is specified that the punishment was calculated from November 2002.

In October 2002, an explosion at a McDonald's restaurant in Moscow killed one person and injured eight others.

Later, on October 23 of the same year, Chechen militants captured 916 people at the Dubrovka Theater Center during a screening of the musical "Nord-Ost". The storming of the building began on October 26. As a result of the terrorist attack, 130 people were killed, including two actors of the children's troupe.

In October 2023, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia does not forget those who rescued people during the hostage-taking at the musical "Nord-Ost".
