- Lavrov: Russia maintains contacts with the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

The Russian side maintains contacts with the American administration regarding the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with CBS News on April 24.
"We continue our contacts with the American side on the situation in Ukraine. There are several signs that we are moving in the right direction," he said, answering a question about a possible new meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the American leader's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff.
In addition, Lavrov noted that Trump is probably the only leader in the world who has recognized the need to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict and is seeking to correct the measures taken by the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said on April 22 that Witkoff would arrive in Russia this week to continue talks with Putin. According to her, the special envoy of the US president and Trump himself believe that the negotiations are moving in the right direction.
At the same time, Witkoff's plans to visit Moscow were announced by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. However, he did not specify on what specific day the American special envoy plans to arrive. Later, the Axios portal reported that Witkoff's meeting with Putin could take place on April 25.
