The defendants in the Moscow sewer tragedy will be sentenced on April 28

The session, at which the guide-digger Nikita Dubas and the founder of the Sputnik excursion booking service Alexander Kim will be sentenced, will be held on April 28, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow reported.
They are accused of the death of eight people in a Moscow underground collector in the summer of 2023, namely - the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
The maximum sentence under the article imputed to the defendants is 10 years' imprisonment, Andrei Mishonov reminded Izvestia. But, according to him, both defendants will be able to avoid them.
"Despite the fact that most often the maximum terms are imputed to the heads of organizations, rather than full-time employees, Kim can avoid the maximum penalty. There is such a chance because he has paid moral compensations to the relatives of the victims," he said.
Dubas, according to Andrei Mishonov, may also not appoint maximum terms because of the presence of minor children.
"Also, if he proves that he has serious health problems and provides medical reports on the presence of a severe form of diabetes, when sentencing, these circumstances may take into account and mitigate the punishment," the lawyer added.
But the relatives of the victims during the debate of the parties during the court session said that they insist on the maximum terms for the defendants.
