Croatian President Milanovic ruled out the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU

The European Union (EU) countries will never accept Ukraine into their membership, despite their promises about the country's future membership in the union. This opinion was expressed by Croatian President Zoran Milanovic on April 24.
"The countries of the [Balkan] region are in such a state that Western politicians, unfortunately, will never accept them into the EU. Ukraine is too big and capricious to even seriously talk about it, but they still throw dust in their eyes and make some dishonest promises," Milanovich's press service quoted him as saying.
Speaking about the current state of the EU, Milanovic pointed out the energy and technological vulnerabilities of the union against the background of growing global competition. According to him, the union does not have its own electricity, so it has to import it. At the same time, the Croatian leader continued, the EU is also lagging behind in the development of advanced technologies.
Milanovic stressed that Croatia's membership in the European Union has brought many advantages, but noted that the country must act strategically and realistically in the future.
On March 26, the President of Croatia said that the European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine would never be implemented, explaining this by failing to fulfill the basic conditions for these purposes. At the same time, he stressed that such an initiative is dangerous due to the lack of Russian consent.
