- EC specifies terms for Hungary and Slovakia to be excluded from the embargo on Russian oil

The European Union (EU) has not set an expiration date for exceptions to the embargo on Russian oil supplies for Hungary and Slovakia, the European Commission (EC) told Izvestia.
"As far as oil is concerned, a temporary derogation from the general EU ban on Russian oil imports has been made to ensure security of supply to some member states due to their geographical location. The end date of this derogation has not been set," the EC said.
Recall that the EU in June 2022 adopted the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, including an embargo on maritime supplies of Russian oil from December 5, 2022 and oil products from February 5, 2023. Exceptions were provided for oil imports via the Druzhba pipeline for those EU states that have no alternatives for obtaining resources due to their geographical situation.
The European Commission intends to achieve a phased withdrawal of the EU from Russian fossil fuels, including for the countries of Central Europe, the publication of a roadmap is expected in the coming weeks, the EC told Izvestia.
