In the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a mine collapsed at the Luhhi mine in the province of South Kivu, captured by M23 rebels, killing at least 10 people. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 24.

"At least 10 people died as a result of the collapse of a gold mine," the publication says.

Douglas Dunia Masumbuko, the governor appointed by the M23 movement, according to the agency, said that the death toll could rise, given the number of injured. According to him, the cause of the disaster could be "uncontrolled construction and poor maintenance of gold mines."

On April 18, it became known that the death toll from a shipwreck on a river in DR Congo had risen to 148 people. According to the Commissioner for River Affairs, Competent Loyoko, the fire broke out on the ship when one of the passengers started cooking.
