- The State Duma spoke about expectations from a possible meeting between Putin and Witkoff

During a possible meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff are likely to discuss the problems that have accumulated in Russian-American relations. This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy Dmitry Novikov on Thursday, April 24.
"We must understand that we are still at the preliminary stage of developing approaches to overcome the problems that have accumulated in the relations between the two countries. And overcoming it is impossible without a full—scale discussion of big and complex issues with the way to concrete solutions," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to Novikov, this is why the team of US President Donald Trump regularly sends negotiators to the Russian side who are open to discussing all issues, including those related to the Ukrainian conflict.
"Those who are responsible for developing the US foreign policy course are trying to find the keys to solving the problem within the framework of a dialogue with Russia. I do not exclude the possibility that Washington is indeed considering a way out of the negotiation process on Ukraine. In this case, the entire burden will fall on the European Union, which will eventually have nothing left but to turn to Trump," the parliamentarian concluded.
Earlier, on April 23, the Axios portal reported that Witkoff's meeting with Putin could take place on April 25, RT reports.
On April 22, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that Witkoff would arrive in Russia this week to continue talks with Putin, according to 360.ru . According to her, the special envoy of the US president and Trump himself believe that the progress of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is going in the right direction.
At the same time, Witkoff's plans to visit Moscow were announced by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. However, he did not specify on what specific day the American special envoy plans to arrive.
On April 11, Witkoff and the President of the Russian Federation met in St. Petersburg. It was clarified that the topic of the negotiations was aspects of the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called the meeting between Putin and Witkoff a good opportunity to convey the Russian side's point of view to Trump before the talks began.
