US President Donald Trump considers the issue of Russia's and Ukraine's participation in settlement negotiations important, the American leader told reporters on April 24 during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Harrer at the White House.

"We believe that both [Russia and Ukraine] want peace, but [they] must sit down at the negotiating table. <...> I think we will achieve peace," TASS quoted the politician as saying.

The US president added that he has his own deadline for the possible achievement of a peaceful situation.

"I have my own deadline. <...> I think we will achieve peace. I don't like that this is going on for a long time, but I think both sides want peace," he said.

And if the situation does not improve within a certain framework, Trump warned, "we will start behaving completely differently."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier in the day that Russia appreciates the mediation services provided by Trump and his administration in the negotiation process on the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, work is underway to resolve the conflict. The Russian Federation aims to continue the settlement process. Russian President Vladimir Putin stands for achieving peace while ensuring the interests of the country, Peskov added.

On April 23, Trump said that the United States is experiencing more difficulties in negotiations with Ukraine than with Russia, with which agreements have been practically reached. In addition, the statement made by the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, about the refusal to recognize Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation hinders the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
