A new species of birds has been spotted in the Alkhanai National Park

The Alkhanai National Park in the Trans-Baikal Territory has become the site of an unusual natural phenomenon — a meeting with a new species of avifauna. In April, a white-tailed eagle, listed in the Red Book of Russia, was spotted there, the park's press service reports.
Amateur photographer Majewski from the village of Duldurga captured the feathered one on April 15 at the Shiviinsky (Ilinsky) lakes. The white-tailed eagle is considered one of the most widespread and powerful birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere.
Previously, this species had not been seen within the park, which makes its appearance significant for scientists and ornithologists. The bird is not endangered, but it can serve as an indicator of a healthy ecosystem and a good state of nature.
The white-tailed eagle often stays for the winter in the trans-Baikal reserves "Daursky" and "Sokhondinsky". The bird's food base consists of fish and other aquatic organisms, writes ChitaMedia news agency.
The white-tailed eagle is a large bird of prey from the genus Falconiformes. Its body length ranges from 70 to 90 cm, and its wingspan is up to 230 cm. The plumage color of an adult is brown with a yellowish tinge on the head and neck, while the tail is white. That's why it got its name.
Earlier in April, a photo of the white-tailed eagle was taken in the Polistovsky Nature Reserve (Pskov region) during the spring monitoring of avifauna.
